The story follows male protagonist Daniyal Khan (Saif Ali Khan), a disgraced Indian soldier, who sets out on a mission to seek justice. Indian RAW chief (Sabyasachi Chakrabarty) and his trusted men (Rajesh Tailang, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) plan a daring covert operation to take revenge on the men who planned the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. However, in absence of permission from the Home Minister, they have to keep everything under wraps. In order to achieve the mission's target maintaining heavy secrecy, they handpick Daniyal, who is convicted for murder and jailed, to be sent as a phantom to neighbouring countries and carry out the assassinations. Daniyal grabs this opportunity as his last resort to restore his honour, and sets out on a journey to seek justice, and travels from India to Europe, America, and Middle East. In the journey he is accompanied and helped by former RAW agent Nawaz Mistry (Katrina Kaif). What remains to be seen is whether Daniyal succeeds in the mission, restores his lost pride, or whether he pays a hefty price for this deadly mission.
Phantom (2015) is based on Hussain Zaidi’s novel Mumbai Avengers, which is about the aftermath of 26/11 Mumbai attacks

This film is inspired by the movie Munich (2005) directed by Steven Spielberg.

Fardeen Khan was the initial choice to play the role of Daniyal Khan in the movie. Since Fardeen has not been signing any movie contracts since 2010, the role went to Saif Ali Khan.

Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif have reportedly learnt Kurdish and Arabic for their roles.

This film is director Kabir Khan's second big release of 2015, after Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015).

The Hindu|Review by Anuj Kumar
Based on Hussain Zaidi’s “Mumbai Avengers”, the film suffers from the same flaws as the novel. Zaidi’s first attempt at fiction has a strong base of facts but when he enters in the fictional space he fumbles.

Fact, fiction and fantasy are mixed in slapdash style in Phantom. Some parts of the explosive drama that co-writer and director Kabir Khan creates are gripping, but the rest of the action is either poorly paced or painfully perfunctory.

Watch this film. Flaws aside, it talks of a real concern facing all of us, even while taking a flight of fantasy.
