Plot Summary
Inspired by reality, the film follows the story of 5 girls - Mayuri Chauhan (Ruhi Singh) from Rohtak, Nazneen Malik (Avani Modi) from Lahore, Sharon Pinto (Kyra Dutt) from Goa, Nandita Menon (Akanksha Puri) from Hyderabad and Paroma Ghosh (Satarupa Pyne) from Kolkata - who arrive in Mumbai for a breakthrough in the fashion industry. They eventually get selected to be featured on the cover of India's most prestigious annual calendar, which opens up the door of opportunity to fame, success and money for the fashion world newbies. However, as they gradually climb the ladder of success, a lot of deviations and obstacles come into their ways, and they realise that the world of glitz and glamour is not so glitzy on the inside, as they learn to roll with the punches. The rest of the plot highlights what happens behind the scenes, and what future holds for these Calendar girls.
According to director Madhur Bhandarkar, the story of Calendar Girls is 75% reality and 25% fiction.

The film marks the debut of five female leads - Ruhi Singh, Avani Modi, Kyra Dutt, Akanksha Puri and Satarupa Pyne.

The film was banned from release in Pakistan.

Madhur Bhandarkar wanted Deepika Padukone as one of the female leads, however she declined for date issues.

This is the first film that features Madhur Bhandarkar as an actor, albeit in a cameo role.

Slapdash and sanctimonious, Calendar Girls is a stunner, but for all the wrong reasons. It is stunning in its sheer stupidity.

An after-thought, which talks of how these girls are 'proud achiever', comes in the end. The rest of the Madhur Bhandarkar's movie exploits young women being exploited.
