59th Annual Cannes Film Festival (2006)
The 59th Annual Cannes Film Festival was held 17 May 2006 to 28 May 2006. The President of the Official Jury was Wong Kar-wai, the first Chinese director to preside over the jury. The festival opened with the premiere screening of Ron Howard's "The Da Vinci Code" (USA), based on the novel by Dan Brown. Tony Gatlif's "Transylvania" (France) closed the festival. Ken Loach's "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" (Ireland) was awarded the Palme d'Or award.
