4th Filmfare Awards (1957)
The 4th Filmfare Awards ceremony was held on May 5, 1957 and honored the best Bollywood films of 1956.
V Shantaram's "Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje" was the biggest winner of the night having bagged Best Film and Best Director awards. The other film to receive multiple awards was Bimal Roy's "Devdas".
Dilip Kumar won his third Best Actor award for "Devdas". Nutan won her first Best Actress award for "Seema". Vyjayanthimala won her first Filmfare in Supporting Actress category for "Devdas" although she refused to take her award on the ground that her role was more of parallel lead rather than supporting. She was the first person to refuse a Filmfare Award.
